What is the CUPID LIFT® Surgery?

The CUPID LIP LIFT® is a unique lip enhancement procedure pioneered and perfected by Dr. Ben Talei. The CUPID LIFT® surgeons use this technique to modify and improve the contour, shape, and volume of the lips. This lip surgery also known as a deep plane upper lip lift, is a truly groundbreaking surgical treatment that reverse engineers lip excision for unparalleled balance and natural appearing results.

What areas of the lip does the CUPID LIFT® focus on?

The CUPID LIP LIFT® gets its name from the independent relaxed skin tension lines on the lip, as described by Dr. Talei. The lines are called central, peak, intermediate, and diagonal (CPID), which naturally calls to mind the word “Cupid.” Dr. Talei uses precise markings on these lines to design the plan for your lips’ shape, display, and slope. The upper lip is enhanced while the lower lip remains untouched. However, most patients notice improved tooth show following surgery.

How is the CUPID LIFT® surgery performed?

Using Dr. Ben Talei’s technique, the CUPID LIFT® surgeons use a subnasal incision to access the SMAF layer and subsequent muscle layer for precise alterations that affect the lips. In this way, he can achieve corrections to the lip corners, subnasal area, vermillion, and other areas as necessary, while allowing for free muscle movement after the procedure is completed.

What does CUPID LIFT® mean?

Cupid refers to the design markings drawn on the lip before starting the surgery. The Cupid name was derived from the independent Relaxed Skin Tension Lines on the lip as described by Dr. Talei. Central, Peak, Intermediate, and Diagonal spell out CPID and from there you have our name Cupid. These are the marking lines used to design what the lip will look like, allowing us to control the shape, slope, and display of the lip. The Diagonal line also helps differentiate between the subfacial and subnasal lip and determine which patients will need a corner lip lift. The subfacial lip doesn’t lift very much with subnasal lip lifting or fillers.

Is the CUPID LIFT® procedure customizable?

The CUPID LIP LIFT®  was designed to be fully customizable for every patient.  The Cupid Algorithm in the Cupid Lips app can help design the lips to perfection by modulating every millimeter of the lip. Other portions are also customizable, such as the Type 1 or Type 2 corner lift or corrections to the internal/inferior lip border. A unique hypochlorous solution and hyperbaric oxygen are used to speed the healing and recovery process. Also, Dr. Talei prefers to treat your incisions with a CO2 laser one or two times post-procedure to help eliminate scarring. Your results are perfectly beautiful lips that appear natural and show no indications of surgery or corrections.

What Are the Results of A CUPID LIFT® Procedure?

The end result of a lip lift is subtle, but the benefits are substantial. Several changes are noted almost immediately:

  • Shortening of the lip length between the nose and mouth
  • Increased tooth show
  • Increased sensuality of the mouth
  • Shortening of the perceived length of the lower midface
  • Turning the Cupid’s bow upwards – lip eversion
  • Increasing the volume of the pink and white lip
  • Improvement of lipstick bleed lines and wrinkles
  • Subtle improvement of the corners of the mouth
  • Makes the lips and lower face appear younger
  • Improves the definition of the philtral columns and Cupid’s bow

What Comes with your CUPID LIFT® surgery?

With your surgery, you will receive a CUPID LIFT® post care kit as well as a series of post-operative appointments with the Cupid Lips medical team. The post-operative appointments consist of suture removal, and possible laser treatments to further promote healing.

What can I expect after a CUPID LIFT® surgery?

Post-operative healing varies from patient to patient. Below is a general timeline of the healing process:

1st week: The lip will be swollen with some bruising around the mouth, and swelling around the cheeks and face. This is all expected during the healing phase. Sutures come out over one or two visits this week.  Asymmetry, swelling, and some anxiety are all very normal in this stage of healing.

Around 3 weeks: The lip will be a more normal size. Some will still look asymmetric in the nose and the lip. The nose may be wider than it should be.  Swelling becomes consolidated and the lip will become firm.

Three months: Less than 20% healed internally, but it’s usually time to celebrate. At 3 months the nose has returned almost to normal.  The lips are normal size in most cases.  This is when almost all patients are photo and event ready and love the results.  Before and after photos will be taken at this stage.

Patients are still in the early phases of healing and you would be surprised to see how much improvement is still to come.

In our experience, the ultimate healing course of any intervention to the body is that it would be 80-90% healed at 1 year and around 99% healed at 3 years.

It is normal to experience fluctuations in swelling and sensation throughout the entire healing course.
